As a reboot of the original Gundam series, Gundam SEED has a lot of similarities with Mobile Suit Gundam. The war between normal human beings and genetically-enhanced people? Checked. The incursion by the adversary to steal a new, high-tech Gundam? Checked. The white-colored battleship to carry the surviving Gundam and its crew to escape from the enemy pursuit? Checked.  Being chased around by a psychopathic masked man? Double-checked. Even the main protagonist mobile suit, the GAT-X105 Strike Gundam is strikingly similar (pun intended) in design and color scheme with RX-78-2. 

Trivia:

The name GAT-X105 Gundam is an acronym for:-

GAT - Gressorial Armament Tactical

X - Experimental

105 - The fifth unit developed under the Earth Alliance's "G Project"

Gundam - General Unilateral Neuro-link Dispersive Autonomic Maneuver (whatever that supposed to mean).

The Strike Gundam uses a different backpack called the Striker Packs, to serve a different purpose in combat. This SD paper model of Strike, modeled by Cream-Bread, however, uses a custom Striker Packs named the C.B pack (I assumed C.B stands for Cream-Bread). It's a cool looking shoulder missile and Gatling gun on both Strike's arms. There's a bonus too as he added the template for the base as well.
