Gundam SEED - Cosmic Era (CE)

As my last post on Super Robot ended (for now) with the Grendizer let's go back to our beloved Real Robot universe, the Gundam. And this time we're going to yet another different timeline than the original Universal Century (UC) - the Cosmic Era (CE). The Cosmic Era is the universe of Gundam SEED, the 9th installment in the Gundam franchise, which debuted as a 2002 anime television series.

The original Gundam series (which is now fondly referred to as Gundam 0079) has been more than 2 decades old. To regain new interest & attracts new audiences Gundam SEED was created as a reboot of the original Gundam series. And by a reboot, it means that the story is similar to Gundam 0079 (in the 1st half of the season only though) while having a different character and different Gundam(s) - a whole lot of them!

I grew up watching SEED as my 1st Gundam show and I love it to this day. It does sound bias due to nostalgic reasons, but SEED remains the most famous Gundam series in the franchise (at least in Japan). It also has a lot of cool Gundam designs from the rest of the franchise. My only problem is that there are too many Gundams in the show, it kinda diminishing the superiority of Gundam in 0079. The Gundams in SEED all look alike too, with Strike Gundam as the main mold and the others follow the same design with minor changes.

The GAT-X105 Strike Gundam is the main Gundam in the series piloted by the protagonist Kira Yamato, who would later transcend humanity and become the invincible, god-like, Lord Kira (if you never watch SEED, I'll explain this later).
