The GAT-X303 Aegis Gundam is one of the five mobile suits created for the Atlantic Federation's G Project alongside Duel Gundam, Buster Gundam, Strike Gundam, and Blitz Gundam. Apart from the Strike, the four mobile suits were stolen by ZAFT's Le Creuset team at Heliopolis. Aegis is considered as the commander unit of the G Project due to its enhanced communication and analysis capabilities. And as the commander, that's why it donned the biggest antenna from the rest of the prototype unit. It can also transform into a mobile armor (MA) which resembles a claw, capable of grabbing onto enemies and destroying them with its "Scylla" 580mm energy cannon. 

This awesome claw-machine Gundam was piloted by Athrun Zala, Kira Yamato's childhood/best friend. Being on the opposite sides of the war, these two best friends will fight fiercely against each other throughout the series. Athrun however, has a problem with his indecisiveness to choose what reason he is fighting for. This saw him as an antagonist early on in the series as a ZAFT pilot before joining Kira to end the war only for him to return back to ZAFT later on. And again revert to team Kira once he came back to his senses. Come on boy, make up your mind already!
