[Terrordrone] Dark Knight Tumbler

    "So what do you think?"

    "Does it come in black?"

    ―Lucius Fox and Bruce Wayne

The Tumbler. Not to be confused with your drinking container or the social media website, the Tumbler is the epiphany that Batmobile has to be realistic and fully functional. It first comes as Christopher Nolan's vision of a Batmobile in the form of an ugly clay model he shaped using (probably) his children's Play-Doh that he presented to the Warner Bros. The design was then refined as a mix combination of a Lamborghini and a Hummer (yea now you see it too, huh). But what is actually a Tumbler? It is a military prototype developed by the Wayne Enterprise Applied Sciences Division. As explained by Fox to Bruce when he first test-drives the Tumbler - "She was built as a bridging vehicle. During combat, two of these will jump over a river, towing cables. Over here on the throttle shift that open and throttle up, this will boost you into a rampless jump." The explanation raise more questions than answers. How far can it jump over a river? River's size range from 30 meters (98 ft) the narrowest to the widest spans of 2 km (1.2 miles). The average river width is around 130 meters (426 ft). So how can it jump over a 100 meters distance without a ramp? Equipped with a jet engine booster or not the car is heavy with plated armor, weapons and all. The rear wheels alone weight about a ton. So in theory, it would be impossible for such a heavy machine to jump across rivers without a ramp.

You guys will then say - "It's just a movie, relax. Physics doesn't really apply in movies anyway". Yeah, you are probably right. But Nolan is the one that convince us that this Batmobile is practical and fully operational. So I guess that's why in the movie the Tumbler was only a prototype and never make it into production. But putting your logic aside, Fox's explanation on the Tumbler is relevant to justify how the Tumbler was able to jump rooftops to rooftops later on in the movie when Batman was chased by the Gotham police. We will also see that Batman jumps the Tumbler over a cliff to enter the Batcave. So it is logically sound for him to use the Tumbler that is capable of flying across without a ramp, to hide his Batcave from others.
