[MarianoDG] G1 Megatron
The original cartoon, The Transformers, ran from 1984 to 1987, spanning 4 seasons with 98 episodes. In 1986, a feature film named The Transformers: The Movie was released in theatres. There is a season 5, but it doesn't come with any new episodes. Instead, it consisted of 15 episodes from the previous season, with The Movie chopped up into five episodes, totalling up to a 20-episode run.
The TV series was produced by Marvel Productions and Sunbow Productions in association with Japanese studio Toei Animation for first-run syndication. For non-US readers who are not familiar with the term, broadcast syndication is when the rights to broadcast a show are sold to stations on an individual basis, as opposed to network distribution, where a network supplies programming for all their affiliated stations. Syndication is less widespread in the rest of the world, as most countries have centralized networks or television stations without local affiliates.
The Transformers Generation 2 cartoon aired from 1993 to 1995. It is a rebroadcast of Generation 1 episodes with a slap of overlay CGI animated "Cybernet Space Cube." The biggest thing that they have added to the show is the CGI intro of Optimus Prime and Ramjet. Many would recall that the intro is one of the very first experiences of computer animation sequences on television.
