[ThunderChild] SDF-1 Macross
The SDF-1 Macross is the titular ship of the Super Dimension Fortress Macross television series. In the Macross timeline, the ship was originally the Supervision Army's Gun Destroyer that crash-landed on South Ataria Island in the Pacific Ocean. The Supervision Army is the sworn enemy of the Zentradis and has been in eternal war with them. In Robotech, the SDF-1 was initially belonged to Zor Derelda, the original Robotech Master.
Upon crashing on Earth, humans learned that the spaceship was a war vessel and contains alien technology. Humanity was later united by the establishment of an international government to protect the Earth from potential alien threats in the future. The crashed ship was later rebuilt and a city called Macross City flourished around it. After the ship reconstruction was completed, it was re-classified as the "SDF-1 Macross" or "Super Dimensional Fortress-1 Macross".
Years later, when the SDF-1 Macross was about to embark on its maiden voyage the Zentradi launched an attack on the island and started Space War I. The SDF-1 crew under the leadership of Captain Bruno J. Global conduct a space fold to escape the attack. Space fold is an alien's technology for teleporting, it works by forming a sphere around the spacecraft that allows it to travel instantly between two distant points in space. Unbeknown to the crew, the SDF-1 not only teleported to Pluto, but it also brings along part of the South Atalia Island and the two ships docking on the ocean at the time, together with them to space. The two ships, the space carrier CVS-101 Prometheus and the assault landing vessel SLV-111 Daedalus later on attached to the SDF-1 as its arms.
After the space fold, the SDF-1 crew will rescue the Macross City citizens who took shelter in the bunkers during the alien attack. How the people inside the bunker survived in deep space is for a debate in another time. The ship's crew and the survivors, later on, rebuilt the Macross City inside the ship's hull, complete with multistorey buildings, roads, and trees. Well, you just have to love science fiction!
This detailed papercraft is the work of ThunderChild, where you can build the SDF-1 both in Battle Cruiser mode and Battle Fortress mode.
